For starters.
There were signs.
1.) someone basically left me hanging like sheets on a clothes line early on
2.) this was just to last minute
3.) hotels were sickly costly
4.) the staff basically told me I might be SOL if I arrived after 1pm coming from Dallas
5.) the actions and attitude of Nate’s staff prior to the show
Did I say I was excited about going? Did I post a video about being excited, and thanking Nate and the staff? But why? Total disappointment. I left my family, and spent money on a trip to NY at the last minute which wasn't cheap for a “DESIGN BLOGGER DAY”, and there was not even a mention of the word BLOGGER on the show. Emily Henderson (a blogger herself) the winner of Design Star on HGTV was there, and so was my favorite designer Christian Siriano from Project Runway. Yea, Nate is cute as he wants to be in person. And seems rather nice, but his staff totally dropped the ball ALL THE WAY AROUND on this. You would have thought we would have been able to take a photo with him, or a handshake exit. Nothing. Oh, he did do a Q & A with with us after the show which went well, but had I known those were the plans of the producers, I would not have made the choice to go.
I have been a major supporter of Nate’s. Even buying his items from HSN for my home. We or let me say I wasn’t expecting a car, or a trip to Australia, just a good time and at least ACKNOWLEDGEMENT that it was DESIGN BLOGGER DAY, which clearly it was not!
The show in my opinion needs a huge change and fast. I understand its new, but something has got to give…Oprah backing or not. Bloggers gave Nate basically free advertisement for #nateday, and what did we get? A gift card to payless, scarf, an ask for ideas, and a hurry and leave please. Think about how awesome the show could have been. What were those producers thinking? Then Nate tells us he doesn't read blogs. Excuse? What chu say Willis? He said he has a team that does that, and they inform him of the good stuff basically. All the while I am thinking of what I could have done with the money I spent on this trip, and my kids..are they hungry? Did everyone make it to and from school on time? All those thoughts caught up with me again once I was alone in my hotel room in Jersey. I am just so disappointed, and better not make a video post on this because the shit would hit the fan. As the old song goes. Experience is a good teacher.
But on a lighter note. The best part was meeting all the fabulous bloggers that keep us entertained on a daily basis. Talk about a group of stylish beauties and gents in one place. I was able to hit up the after party hosted by Camila and The Nest which was great! If only I had not been drained, and tired from catching a 5:45am flight. Which means I got up at 3:30am, or did I go to bed at all Monday night. Anyway. I would have loved to hang all night with them. There was a design challenge that I even declined because my head was mush. The one thing I am happy about is that all the ladies that I met were just as nice as could be. Had they not, this would be a rant. So way to go CHICA’s. And before I forget, the hype lady Dena was the best! Check her out here.
So to just to be clear. My love for Nate Berkus and his talent, has not changed. I think he is totally talented, but needs to make that connection with the people. All roads lead to his staff, and the lack of creative thought needed to really make the show stand out. In simple words from a Texas girl…as we say: “You just don’t do people like that man, and get away with it.” But there was a tweet from him yesterday.
Your damn right. And that’s putting it mildly.
A special thanks to Kwana for being a great friend. I don’t know what I would have done had she not helped me along with way.
P.S. I have read other posts where some people were okay with the show, and others not so. But as always, I do me. And to be clear again in case someone missed this I will paste it here again:
We or let me say I wasn’t expecting a car, or a trip to Australia, just a good time and at least ACKNOWLEDGEMENT that it was DESIGN BLOGGER DAY, which clearly it was not as defined in some of our minds!
If I lived in NY, I probably would not feel this way. But the fact that a lot went into this for Tamara, makes my opinion mine.
I am on TWITTER. FOLLOW PEEPS!
ALL DONE.
